A Field day programme entitled “Soil and water conservation measures for soil health improvement for tribal farmers of Meghalaya” was organized at Umramblei village, Ribhoi district, Meghalaya on 17th March, 2025 under the project ‘Development of Watershed based Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) for sustainable livelihood of tribal farmers of Meghalaya’ under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) project. A total of 39 farmers participated in this field day programme. The programme was organized with the aim to sensitize the tribal farming community about the importance of soil and water conservation approaches including micro-water harvesting structures like jalkund for sustaining crop productivity in the hilly ecosystems of Meghalaya. Critical inputs like rose can and seeds of Frenchbean, Cucumber, Dhaincha were also distributed to the farmers. A team of scientists- Dr. Ramesh T, Dr. H.D.Talang, Dr. A. Balusamy, Dr. M. Prabha Devi, Dr. Mahasweta Chakraborty, Dr. N. Raju Singh, Dr. R. Katiyar, Dr. C.B.K.Sangma, Dr. Y. Bijen, Dr. S. Gojendro and Dr. A.Yumnum coordinated the programme with the assistance provided by project staffs. This programme was facilitated by Dr. S. Hazarika, Head DSRE and Nodal Officer of TSP.
